How to Create Your Own Natural Mouthwash

Written By Lisa Sitwell 16 Sep 2020

Are you looking to improve your oral hygiene? Do you not want to spend money on products that might do more harm to your teeth and mouth than good? Creating your own natural mouthwash is easy and affordable. These will keep your breath fresh and your mouth clean. Check them out!

Mint and Parsley

Instead of using mint-flavored mouthwash, maybe you should consider using the mint plant! Mint and parsley are nice-smelling herbs that are known for their common use in hygiene products (particularly mint). Chewing on a mint or parsley leaf can kill bacteria in your mouth and leave you fresh in several minutes.

The best part—buying mint and parsley will likely be cheaper for you than buying mouthwash products. Though the leaves may go bad often, which is something to consider if you purchase them. These are an excellent alternative to traditional mouthwash. If you have a blender, you can also make the mix yourself if you do not want to chew.

Salt Water

Another great way to clean your breath is by using salt water. While other mouthwashes use alcohol and manufactured products, salt is a natural cleaning substance. Salt water is also the cheapest option if you need something to clean your teeth fast—all it takes is a mix of tap water and table salt.

Salt water naturally disinfects and loosens debris between your teeth. Because of this, salt water strengthens against gum disease and other issues. While it is not as pungent as most manufactured mouthwashes, avoid drinking it as it can lead to dehydration.

Coconut Oil

Oil pulling is another technique that people use to clean their teeth. Using around a tablespoon of natural oil (coconut oil is common) and swishing it around in your mouth can break up and pull away build-up in your mouth. This is commonly used in polishing teeth and removing stains, but it should not be used without other hygienic measures like brushing your teeth.

While coconut oil is a good option, it can be more expensive to buy. Olive oil can also be a good substitute for mouthwash as well, and is less expensive than coconut oil.

Keeping your mouth healthy and natural is incredibly easy to do. Instead of using mouthwash made with ingredients you do not know how to pronounce, put some work into your health by treating your mouth right. You will notice a difference in your breath and in your smile.
